Birth
Omawumi is a native of the Itsekiri tribe in Delta State, Nigeria.
She was born on April 13th, 1982, into the polygamous home of Chief Dr. Frank and Mrs. Aya Megbele in Warri, Delta State.
Education
Omawumi attended Nana Primary School and the College of Education Demonstration Secondary School in Warri.
After high school, she enrolled at Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria, where she earned a degree in Law.
She also studied French at Alliance Francaise after which she began her legal practice at “O.S Megbele & Associates”, a law firm owned by her father, located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Career
Omawumi’s music career began in 2007 when she participated in the West African version of the reality show “Idols” where she finished as the runner-up.
Her victory earned her widespread popularity owing to her resonating voice, she worked with other artists such as Flavour, Waje, P-Square, Phyno, Cobhams Asuquo amongst others.
Omawumi went on to release her debut album “Wonder Woman,” in 2008 and it was widely accepted, earning her lots of awards and nominations.
This was followed up with a second album, “Lasso of Truth,” in 2013, which also received critical acclaim.
Aside from singing, she also ventured into acting, featuring in movies like “Inale,” “House of Gold,” and “It’s Her Day.”
She is also a brand ambassador for Globacom, Konga.com, Malta Guinness and Lifebuoy.
