Putin to receive Iranian president in Russia Thursday

The Kremlin announced that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will visit Russia on Thursday for meetings with Vladimir Putin, as the two countries expand economic and military ties in the face of Western sanctions. “I can confirm this.
When asked about media rumors of Raisi’s imminent visit, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday, “There will be Russian-Iranian negotiations on December 7.”
Putin visited Iran in July of last year, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited the country in October to meet with regional peers.
Western countries have accused Tehran of supplying substantial quantities of drones and other weaponry to Russia’s offensive in Ukraine.
According to Iran’s official news agency Irna, Raisi will fly to Moscow on Putin’s invitation.
“Bilateral issues, including economic interactions, as well as discussions about regional and international issues, especially the situation in Gaza, will be high on the agenda of the one-day trip,” it reported.
