Ruger hails from Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State but was born on 30th September, 1999 to Mr and Mrs Olayinka in Lagos State, Nigeria and christened with the name Michael Adebayo Olayinka.
He grew up in Lagos State where he acquired his necessary academic qualifications.
Career
Ruger began singing right from his early days in school and in his church choir.
He was discovered by D’Prince, who gave him the moniker, “Ruger”.
The success of his debut song online landed him a deal which he signed with the Jonzing World and Sony Music Entertainment UK in collaboration with Columbia Records.
Alongside with another popular artist, Rema, in 2021, Ruger released the song, One Shirt” followed by “Ruger”, a single from first EP, PANDEMIC.
His hit song, “Bounce” garnered lots of streamings on music platforms and debuted at number 39 on the Top 50 chart Nigeria, thereafter, it was listed at number 20 on the TurnTable End of the Year chart and number 2 on the Apple Music top Afrobeats songs.
On 26 November 2021, he released his second EP, titled “The Second Wave”, with “Dior” as the lead single and it ranked at number 32 on the Top 50 chart, and number 15 on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.
In 2024, he exited Jonzing World record label and established ‘Blown Boy Entertainment’ to his name.
