Super Eagles new FIFA ranking revealed
On Thursday, the Super Eagles climbed 14 places in the current FIFA men’s rankings.
The Nigerian national team advanced from 42nd to 28th in the world.
The World Football Governing Body’s new rating also revealed that the Super Eagles had risen from sixth to third place in Africa.
The national team’s new global ranking is the highest it has been since May 2013.
The significant improvement is due to the Eagles’ performance at the just concluded African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where they finished second and won the silver medal.
The Eagles defeated 2-1 against Cote d’Ivoire in the final, ending their unbeaten run in the competition.
Cote d’Ivoire improved from 49th to 39th in the world, although Morocco and Senegal remained the strongest African teams.
In the most recent rating, Argentina remained number one in the world, with France and Brazil in second and third place, respectively.
The FIFA Men’s World Ranking is a grading system developed by football’s global governing body for men’s national teams in association football.
The men’s member teams are ranked according to their game performance, with the most successful teams at the top.
Points are granted based on the results of all FIFA-recognized full international matches in the points system.
The next FIFA global rankings will be revealed on April 4, 2024.
