Who is Bolaji Agbede, Access Bank acting CEO

The death of the co-founder of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, left a void that was filled on Monday by the appointment of a new Group CEO, Ms. Bolaji Agbede.

AccessCorp described Agbede as the company’s most senior original executive director.

Although her appointment has yet to be verified by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the board feels she would continue the game plan established by the late visionary leader, Wigwe.

Access Bank was granted a banking license in 1988, and in 2002, the board selected founding partners Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Wigwe as Managing Director/CEO and Deputy Managing Director, respectively.

Agbede’s professional journey

AccessCorp describes the banker, Agbede, as a versatile expert with over 27 years of experience in human resources management, customer relationship management, and banking operations.

Agbede has a track record of successful personnel integration throughout mergers and acquisitions, cultural transformation, and corporate strategy implementation.

The banker started her career with Guaranty Trust Bank and worked in a variety of roles, including Relationship Manager and Vault Custodian.

Ms. Agbede was appointed CEO of JKG Limited, a business consultancy firm, in 2003.

She joined Access Bank in 2003 as Assistant General Manager, where she oversaw the bank’s portfolio of chemical trading enterprises.

She has been the Head of Human Resources for the Access Bank Group at Access Holdings since 2010, where she is in charge of the group’s human capital development. Prior to her new post as GCEO, she served as Access Corp’s non-executive director.

Agbede’s Education Experience
Ms. Agbede graduated from the University of Lagos in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics.

She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Cranfield University in 2002 and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management UK and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Nigeria.

The GCEO has attended a number of leadership and professional development programs, including the IMD’s High-Performance Leadership Programme and the London Business School’s Strategic Talent Management Programme.
