David Nweze Umahi popularly known as Dave Umahi is a Nigerian politician
He is the governor emeritus of Ebonyi State and currently representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District.
Early Life
Born on 25th July 1964 to the family of Elder Joseph Umahi Nwaze of Umunaga, Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area, presently in Ebonyi State. He helds from a home of nine children imade of two females and seven males, including Major-General Obi Abel Umahi (Rtd.), the former chairman of the South-East Security Committee, Ebubeagu who t resigned in May 2021, Roy Umahi Nwaeze, a legal practitioner, Austin Umahi Nweze, the former south east vice chairman of the People’s Democratic Party.
Education
Dave Umahi had his early education at Umunaga Primary School and his secondary education at Ishiagu High School and the Government Secondary School, Afikpo. He had a degree in Civil Engineering from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1987.

Engr. David Umahi is married to Mrs Rachael Umahi and the marriage is blessed with four children.
Career
After the completion of his one year compulsory National youth service corps (NYSC), Engr. Dave Umahi worked as a co-founder of the Norman Engineering and Construction Nig. Limited alongside the then-MD of the National Fertilizer Company of Nigeria (NAFCON), Port-Harcourt, Dr Ombo Isokarari, and by 1993 he was appointed the General Manager and shareholder.
He also worked for SCC Nig. Ltd., an Israeli company and a water engineering giant, as an engineer was later promoted to the position of the project engineer, he served as Chairman and CEO of Brass Engineering & Construction Nig Ltd, Focus Investment Nig Ltd, and Osborn La Palm Royal Resort Ltd. Also, the historic Umuahia Water Project and the Ndiegoro Aba Flood Control measures between 1988 and 1990 are a few of the projects that were handled by him.
Political Career
Following his political prowess during his university days, Engr. David Umahi entered public service in 2007 as the state acting chairman of the Ebonyi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party and the cairman of the governing board of the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba for a year.
In 2011, Umahi became the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State on a ticket with governor Martin Elechi till 2015 when he contested and won as the governor of Ebonyi State.
On the 16 March 2019, Umahi was re-elected as governor in the Ebonyi state governorship election. He polled 393,343 votes to defeat APC’s Sonny Ogbuoji who polled 81,703 votes.
On November 2020 Umahi defected to the All Progressives Congress and in 2022 he was elected as flagbearer of the APC in the Ebonyi South Senatorial District elections in 2022.
He was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve as Minister of Works in his cabinet.

In October 2022, a national honour of Commander Of The Order Of The Niger (CON) was conferred on him by the former President Muhammadu Buhari. His net worth is currently about $1-$5 million.
