Meet 10 Nigerian celebrities with most AMVCA wins so far

In this article, Platinum Times Nigeria curates Nigerian celebrities who have  received the most AMVCA honors since its inception in 2013.

Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), initiated by MultiChoice Nigeria is an annual honor that celebrates exceptional achievement in film and television.

On March 9, 2013, the first-ever Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards ceremony took place in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria, and was televised live in more than 50 countries.

Films and television shows from the previous year are eligible to compete in the awards ceremony and prominent and up coming talents in the film industry are honored by the during this epoch event.

Listed below are Nigerian celebrities who have won the most AMVCA awards, from iconic roles in critically acclaimed television shows to memorable performances since the inception of this event in 2013.

1. Funke Akindele (6 wins)

Akindele is the most nominated actress/filmmaker at the AMVCA and currently stands out with six wins which makes her the actress with most wins
In 2014, she won the Best Actress (Comedy) category for ‘The Return of Sheri Koko’, She repeated this success in 2016.

The following year, Akindele won two AMVCAs: one for her hit series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ and another for Best Actress in a Comedy Movie or TV Series.

In 2020, she won Best Actress in a Comedy for ‘Moms At War’. She also won Best Actress in a Comedy for ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ in 2022.

Although she lost at the 2024, AMVCA for her highest grossing movie, “a tribe called Judah”, the actress still shines bright as a lifetime achiever following her previous wins and accolades.

2. Rita Dominic (3 wins)

Rita Dominic Anosike is an ace Nollywood actress who has made a lasting impression with her outstanding performances and impactful productions, earning acclaim and accolades over the years.

Dominic won for her performance in “The Meeting” (New Era Award, 2014 and Best Actress in a Comedy, 2015) and her performance in “76” (Best Actress in a Drama/TV Series, 2017) at the AMVCA.

3. Osas Ighodaro (3 wins)

Osas has emerged as a prominent actress in recent years.

She was awarded Best Actress in a Drama consecutively at the 2022 and 2023 AMVCA for her roles in Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story and Man of God, respectively.

She also received the ‘Best Dressed Female’ award in 2022.

With her remarkable talent and captivating performances, she keeps making an impression on the entertainment industry.

4. Falz (2 wins)

Folarin Falana, known as Falz, makes history as the first Nigerian musician to win two Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

His first win was in 2016 for his role in the TV drama series “Jenifa’s Diary,” and the next as “Best Supporting Actor” for his role as Quam in Tope Oshin Ogun’s movie “New Money”.

5. Broda Shaggi (2 wins)

Nigerian comedian Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda , is a Nigerian comedian, actor, songwriter and musician.

He is a two-time Best Actor in a Comedy, Movie or TV Series winner at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2022 and 2023.

6. Adesua Etomi (2 wins)

Adesua Etomi has clinched two AMVCAs. She first won the ‘Best Actress’ award in 2016 for her standout performance in ‘Falling’. She was later impressed once more, winning ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for her role in ‘The King of Boys’ in 2019.

7. OC Ukeje (2 wins)

OC Ukeje is a Nigerian actor, model, and musician. He’s won the AMVCA for Two Brides and a Baby (Best Actor in a Drama, 2013) and Confusion Na Wa (Best Actor in a Drama, 2015).

8. Odunlade Adekola (2 wins)

Odunlade Adekola is a prominent figure in the Yoruba-language film industry.

He has consistently delivered memorable performances, winning in “A Million Baby” (Best Actor in a Comedy, 2018) or a supporting role, as in “Jankariwo” (Best Supporting Actor, 2022) at the AMVCA.

9. Sambasa Nzeribe (2 wins)

Sambasa Nzeribe is a Nigerian film and television actor, model, and entertainer.

He won the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award for ‘Soldier’s Story’ in 2016 and was honored as the AMVCA’s ‘Best Actor’ in Award 2017.

10. Kehinde Bankole (2 wins)

Kehinde Bankole, a promising actress and model has achieved great feats in the entertainment industry.

In 2015, she clinched the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for Best Lead Actress for her compelling portrayal in ‘October 1,’ the award-winning film directed by Kunle Afolayan and again in 2024, she smiled home with yet another AMVCA award as the Best Lead actress for her role in the movie “Adire”.
